Ruling

Jesus Corza Huerta v. Araceli Cortez Hernandez, et al.

Defendants’ Motion to Contest Application for Determination of Good Faith Settlement

Hearing Date: May 22, 2026 (continued from February 13, 2026)

PARTIES TO APPEAR at the continued hearing on the motion by Defendants Angelita Ramirez and Joel M. Gil (collectively, “Non-Settlors”) contesting the good faith settlement between Defendant Araceli Cortez Hernandez (“Settlor”) and Plaintiff Jesus Corza Huerta (“Plaintiff”).

On May 20, 2026, Settlor filed her declaration, signed 15 days earlier, attesting that she has “no other assets, other than this policy of insurance, which would satisfy any judgment against” her. [Settlor’s Decl. at ¶ 6; see also id. at ¶¶ 7-11.] In light of Settlor’s declaration, the parties shall appear at the May 22 hearing to inform the Court whether Non-Settlors still contest the settlement between Plaintiff and Settlor, or if the hearing should be continued for another 30 days or more to allow the parties to depose Settlor on May 28, 2026.
