§ 604

(a)Whenever a case is before any court upon an accusatory pleading and it is suggested or appears to the judge before whom the person is brought that the person charged was, at the date the offense is alleged to have been committed, under the age of 18 years, the judge shall immediately suspend all proceedings against the person on the charge. The judge shall examine into the age of the person, and if, from the examination, it appears to the judge’s satisfaction that the person was at the date the offense is alleged to have been committed under the age of 18 years, the judge shall immediately certify all of the following to the juvenile court of the county:
(1)That the person (naming the person) is charged with a crime (briefly stating its nature).
(2)That the person appears to have been under the age of 18 years at the date the offense is alleged to have been committed, giving the date of birth of the person when known.
