3. Guardianship of Serenity B. 26PR0112 PETITION TO APPOINT GUARDIAN

A Petition to Appoint a Guardian and Temporary Petition was filed on April 21, 2026. The court has yet to receive a guardianship study conducted by Child Protective Services. The court finds that notice has been given for the hearings for permanent and temporary guardianships to the minor’s parents via personal service and to the parents, maternal grandparents, maternal aunt, and paternal grandmother via mail service. Proposed guardians request that the court dispense with notice to the paternal grandfather as the parents have provided no contact information for him, including his name, so the proposed guardians have no way to ascertain his whereabouts.

The court finds good cause to dispense with notice as to the paternal grandfather for the hearing on the temporary guardianship but directs the proposed guardians to inquire again of the parents as well as the parental grandmother as to his possible identity and address. The court finds that not all questions were completed on the confidential screening form, so the court needs to inquire of the parties as to one item. Provided this issue is resolved, the court is inclined to grant the temporary guardianship.
